Red Cross issues an emergency appeal for donations on Tuesday, 7/9
The American Red Cross is currently experiencing blood and platelet donation levels that are much lower than expectations. The trend is significant enough that the Red Cross is issuing an emergency request for donors with all blood types to make an appointment to give soon, especially O negative, A negative and B negative and platelet donors. Below are key messages to use when talking with donors and coordinators about this appeal:
· Thank you for donating today. We are sorry if you had to wait longer than normal to donate, but we truly appreciate your lifesaving gift to ensure a sufficient blood supply for patients this summer.
· Donations through the Red Cross were down approximately10 percent in June, resulting in about 50,000 fewer donations than expected, leading to an emergency request for donors of all blood types to donate now.
· All blood types are needed especially O negative, A negative and B negative and platelet donors.
· The American Red Cross urges donors to make an appointment to give blood by calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or by going online at redcrossblood.org.

Very quickly the Fredericksburg REALTORS Foundation Art Show will be here. The art show is scheduled for May 12th, 2012 10:00-4:00 at the EXPO Center. As a Governor for the Foundation, I can share with you that quite a bit of time and energy has been volunteered to make this a success. But we are not finished yet!
To give a little background on the event, we must first thank the EXPO Center for allowing us the use of their facilities. Without them, this would not have happened! A huge thank you in advance! Secondly, we have to thank all the area students who have agreed to donate pieces of their art work so that we can sell them and keep the proceeds. Of course our Corporate Sponsors thank you – thank you – thank you!
This is the first year our Foundation has ever attempted something of this size and magnitude. While it is exciting, we are still very nervous about the event and we are hoping that our fellow friends, neighbors and associates will come to the event, and of course support the Foundation by purchasing the art work and help making the event a success.
We must highlight our schools and sponsors. The area High Schools that are participating: Within the City of Fredericksburg – Fredericksburg Christian, James Monroe. Stafford High Schools – Brooke Point, Mountain View, Stafford. Spotsylvania High Schools – Courtland, Massaponax, Riverbend. From King George – King George High School.

The Fredericksburg Area Association of Realtors (FAAR) Multicultural Committee has been reconstituted under the very professional and competent leadership of Ms. Elsa Rake.
The most recent Social Activity sponsored by the Committee was a “Salsa Night”. This very successful function was held at the “Pancho Villa” Mexican restaurant in Lee’s Hill near Massapomax, VA. The activity was so successful the restaurant patrons and wait staff joined us in the dancing! The manager agreed to sponsor any such future FAAR activity at their resturant. What a successful public relations function for the FAAR! Special thanks to Madeline Soto for arranging the ventue and interviewing bands. “Orquesta Curare” sounded amazing.
Currently the Multicultural Committee is planning staffing an information booth for the FAAR Education Conference and Tradeshow to be held at Fredericksburg in September. The Committee also plans to support the University of Mary Washington (UMW) “Diversity Day” celebrations in the early fall.
The Committee is working on a distinctive logo to appear in community adds. The logo and a distinctive polo shirt is being developed for the staff to wear at Committee activities. Committee members are planning to be licensed to teach VHDA classes in Spanish.
We are making a difference! Come join us, participate and have a GREAT Time!
