Registration for Day on the Hill is open

Registration is now open for VAR’s Legislative Advocacy Conference held at the Omni Richmond Hotel February 11-13, 2014.  Members and interested guests may register for the entire conference to include legislative activities and education, or may opt to register for one-day just to attend Day on the Hill events.

Day on the Hill is Wednesday, February 12, 2014 and will start with a legislative briefing at the Omni beginning at 8:00am.  Visits with the Fredericksburg delegation at the General Assembly will follow.  After the visits, there will be a caucus lunch and special guest speaker back at the Omni.  The traditional Legislative Reception at the Jefferson Hotel will take place that evening.

If you want to attend the legislative briefing, the caucus lunch and speaker, and the reception, you MUST register for the one-day fee of $40.  If you ONLY want to attend the Day on the Hill visits with legislators, you may attend for free.  Please register directly with VAR if you would like to sign up for any of the VAR-sponsored events.  Please email Kim McClellan (kmcclellan@faarmembers.com) with FAAR if you want to attend just the visits with legislators.

For those members heading down to Richmond for Day on the Hill, FAAR will provide a $40 gift card to cover gas and parking as long as each driver takes 3 or more people with them.  Email Kim McClellan (kmcclellan@faarmembers.com) if you plan to carpool and would like to request a gift card.

NAR issues a Call for Action on Flood Insurance!

Flood Insurance Issues Could Sink Your Sales

The Problem: Congress provided a 5-year reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), but severe implementation problems threaten to undermine real estate transactions where flood insurance is required to obtain a mortgage.

  • New NFIP rate structures have caused serious confusion and hardship for property owners.
  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) continues to delay and miss deadlines.
  • The legally required transition to true risk rates has plagued consumers with increases in rates beyond what anyone imagined possible.

The Solution: A four-year time-out. Congress has legislation in the House, H.R. 3370 and Senate, S. 1610, to delay changes to the NFIP. These bills would:

  • prudently defer rate increases until FEMA completes the affordability study mandated by law
  • create a system for targeted rate relief
  • establish an office of the Advocate for flood insurance rate and mapping concerns.

Please Take Action today and tell your Member of Congress and Senators that NAR supports the “Homeowner Flood Insurance Affordability Act.”
