King George County will host the first public forum on March 25, 2014. The focus of this forum will be to provide an overview of what a JLUS is, an explanation of the JLUS process, the importance of a JLUS, and an overview of the compatibility factors that will be assessed.

Why should REALTORS® Care about the Fort A.P. Hill Joint Land Use Study?

One word answers the question above:  NOISE.  Yes, noise is the key to why realtors® should care about what happens with this study.  So what is the Fort A.P. Hill Joint Land Use Study?  As the consultant working on the project explains, a JLUS, as it’s called for short, “looks at development within the communities near Fort A.P. Hill and fort operations.  The study will result in recommendations that encourage collaboration and compatibility between the fort and the surrounding communities.”

A series of three public meetings were held this week and the topic of noise came up repeatedly.  New residents moving from out of the area are not aware that their nearest neighbor blows up artillery on a regular basis and that causes noise complaints.  If something about noise is recommended, it will probably be some sort of disclosure at the point-of-sale.  It is important that as this study continues to progress, realtors® take an active role in discussing all possible options on addressing the noise issue.  There will be more public meetings in the future and realtors® selling in Caroline, Spotsylvania, or King George should really be a part of the discussion.

The materials provided at the public meeting included several noise impact maps that plotted complaints and zones of concern.  For a full review of all the materials and noise maps, click here to visit the JLUS page on Caroline County’s website.

King George is on the move

Nicole Thompson, Economic Director for King George County, was the guest speaker at a recent business community luncheon where she focused on the exciting things that are happening in King George.  The County was excited to welcome a slew of new businesses including Walmart, Autozone, GameStop, and a soon-to-be Sweet Frog.  She commented that while King George may not necessarily be the place where big business puts lots of manufacturing plants, it is the excellent quality of life that brings small businesses to the county which increase job opportunities.

The County is also pleased with the new Mary Washington University campus which will provide great opportunities for those working at Dahlgren and individuals living in the community.  King George is looking at a large expansion of the Smoot Library, the creation of a new county park, and then renovation of an elementary school.  In addition, the County has just joined the Northern Neck Tourism Council and is supporting the creation of the Dahlgren Heritage Museum.

Support the Foundation Art Show!

Very quickly the Fredericksburg REALTORS Foundation Art Show will be here. The art show is scheduled for May 12th, 2012 10:00-4:00 at the EXPO Center. As a Governor for the Foundation, I can share with you that quite a bit of time and energy has been volunteered to make this a success. But we are not finished yet!

To give a little background on the event, we must first thank the EXPO Center for allowing us the use of their facilities. Without them, this would not have happened! A huge thank you in advance! Secondly, we have to thank all the area students who have agreed to donate pieces of their art work so that we can sell them and keep the proceeds. Of course our Corporate Sponsors thank you – thank you – thank you!

This is the first year our Foundation has ever attempted something of this size and magnitude. While it is exciting, we are still very nervous about the event and we are hoping that our fellow friends, neighbors and associates will come to the event, and of course support the Foundation by purchasing the art work and help making the event a success.

We must highlight our schools and sponsors. The area High Schools that are participating: Within the City of Fredericksburg – Fredericksburg Christian, James Monroe. Stafford High Schools – Brooke Point, Mountain View, Stafford. Spotsylvania High Schools – Courtland, Massaponax, Riverbend. From King George – King George High School.

Art Show Sponsors, we are very grateful for your support.
