The Director of Economic Development and Tourism for Spotsylvania County, Tom Rumora, recently addressed FAAR’s Government Affairs Committee. He talked about how the County is always working on leads from the state and from their own network. He said they have had 3-4 prospects interested in the old GM facility on Rt. 2. He explained that the land is currently owned by a trust that was set up after GM vacated the property whose sole focus is to bring jobs back to the facility. He said it almost doesn’t matter at what price the building and land sells for as long as there are significant good jobs associated with the project.
When asked what the County’s plan is for combating the major traffic and congestion challenges facing the area, Mr. Rumora feels strongly that bringing the jobs and employers to the local area is a huge part of that solution. That’s why the County is focusing so much on recruiting private businesses and federal government agencies like the FBI.Tweet
